Crane certifications are now required for operators if their machine has a capacity greater than 2,000 pounds. OSHA’s crane rule was hotly debated for years, but it’s been put into full effect now. Safety directors and operations managers across the country are trying to get their operators certified. The same is true for single person operations that use cranes, every operator needs crane operator certification. OSHA can fine companies that are found to be circumventing this regulation. Fines related to OSHA’s crane rule can be avoided by obtaining crane certification from an accredited agency.

As fall settles in, students all over the country are heading back to school to earn an expensive degree that takes years to complete. Some students bypass college in search of jobs that don’t require a degree, leaving them without the burden of college debt.

College isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. What’s important is gaining a skill set so you can provide for yourself throughout your lifetime. There are plenty of jobs that don’t require a degree within the crane industry. When referencing salary info for these high-paying jobs you can get without a college degree, note these are straight pay estimates and they don’t include any overtime pay.

After you’ve been properly trained and prepared for NCCCO written exams you will have two choices for taking the exam. Paper, pencil, and Scantron bubbles (who remembers drawing patterns to fill in the A, B, C and D bubbles?) are the kinds of things you associate with classroom testing. But if you are seeking operational certification to advance your career in construction, manufacturing, or warehousing, you also have the option to take the exam in front of a computer at a certified testing center. This is called computer-based testing, or CBT.

It’s important to note: Although CBT exams are electronic in format, they are not “online” (i.e., you ca’t take the test on your laptop at home). You will have to go to an approved testing facility.
